About this wine:
At the foot of the Sierra that gives its name to the winery and that protects our estates from the cold north winds, appears San Vicente de la Sonsierra, a town of great winemaking tradition, where Sierra Cantabria wines are born with a distinctive.
Variety :100% Garnacha.
Vineyards : Proprietary vineyards planted in 1927, situated in San Vicente de la Sonsierra. Integrated viticulture, respectful of the environment and in harmony with the rhythms of nature.
Elaboration : Traditional method; 100% destemmed grapes, lightly crushed in contact with a small amount of stems. Fermentation with autochthonous yeast selected from our own vineyards and controlled temperature. Malolactic fermentation in barrels. Aged for 14 months in new (15%) and second year (85%) French oak barrels.
Tasting Notes : Attractive deep red colour. This interesting Atlantic Garnacha displays a balanced and delicate aromatic landscape. It shows a nose of cherry pie and spices, with hints of chocolate. Fine and fresh texture, succulent mouthfeel with a lingering finish.
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate - "I tasted two vintages of Garnacha, the first from the great vintage of 2021. The grapes for the 2021 Garnacha ripened thoroughly, but it keeps the more Atlantic character from the higher parts of San Vicente de la Sonsierra, aromatic and floral but also very serious and complete. It does not feel like 15% alcohol, because it's in very good balance. This is a very serious Garnacha matured in French oak barrels, 15% of them new, for one year. 15,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in February 2024."
James Suckling - "This is a phenomenal wine with blood-orange and blueberry aromas. Hints of wet earth. Medium to full body. Chewy tannins, yet integrated and gorgeous. Fantastic value. From vines planted in 1927."
Wine Enthusiast - "Inky violet-red to the eye, this wine offers a bouquet of blackberry, butterscotch, and clove. Blackberry and butterscotch transition to the palate alongside milk chocolate, roasted fennel-bulb and violet flavors swaddled in silky tannins. The floral-scented finish features a note of chocolate-covered-orange-peel."
